nor departments will determine if your transferable
courses meet major/minor requirements.

COMPREHENSIVE ADMISSION REVIEW
A limited number of students who do not meet
admission requirements but can demonstrate a level
of academic preparation that will enable successful
transition to college may be admitted through action
of the Comprehensive Admission Review Committee.
To be considered by the committee, you must submit
the following:

and why you wish to attend WOU.

personnel, preferably counselors or teachers,
who can objectively evaluate your academic
preparation and share why you can succeed
at WOU. Letters from family members, friends
and employers will not be considered by the
committee.
Review of these materials by the committee does
not guarantee admission. With conditional admission,
additional courses and academic support activities
may be recommended or required.
NOTIFICATION
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis
after your le is complete. The university strives
to complete the review process within two weeks
of receipt of a completed application. However,

Applications for admissions will be reviewed
throughout the year. Admissions reserves the right to
rescind the admission of any student who fails to meet
the conditions of his or her admission to WOU.

the undergraduate application for admission,
students wishing to be considered for in-state tuition

FAFSA if needed. The federal processor will also provide
your FAFSA information to WOU if you listed WOU as a
school to receive your information when completing the
FAFSA. WOU’s federal school code is 003209.
After WOU has received your FAFSA, Financial Aid checks
to see if you have applied for admission. WOU will oer
nancial aid packages to students with a valid admission
application on le with Admissions. WOU may need
copies of certain documents to complete your nancial
aid le which can be found on your My Fin Aid Portal
account.
We will send an award letter to you that details the
types and amounts of nancial aid you are eligible to
receive. Award oers for the 2019-20 award year will
begin going out in mid-December for those who le their
FAFSA application by mid-November and for prospective
students with a submitted Admissions application. The
award oer will be an estimate of the Federal aid you're
eligible to receive, subject to change based on meeting
eligibility criteria and actual funding for each aid type.
Award revisions will begin in spring after funding and
institutional budgets are nalized. If your le is selected
for verication, you will need to have submitted all
documents and your le reviewed before a nalized
award oer can be made.
WHAT REQUIREMENTS DO I HAVE TO MEET?
If you are receiving nancial aid, you are responsible
for making Satisfactory Academic Progress. Be sure to
report additional nancial resources (such as outside
scholarships, stipends, tuition remission, vocational
rehabilitation benets, etc.) to Financial Aid so any
necessary adjustments can be made and possible
repayment of aid can be avoided. Remember that
your nancial aid package was created based on the
information from your FAFSA. If your or your family’s
situation has changed since ling the FAFSA, contact
Financial Aid about your special circumstance(s). A re-
evaluation of your resources may be needed.

HOW AND WHEN DO I APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?
All students wishing to be considered for federal nancial
aid should complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA). You can complete the FAFSA
online starting Oct. 1, 2018 at fafsa.gov. In order to be
considered for all the aid types WOU oers, your FAFSA
must be received by the federal processing center as
soon as possible after Oct. 1, but no later than Feb 1,
2019. You may still complete the FAFSA after Feb. 1, but
certain limited aid types may not be available to you.
CAN I VIEW MY INFORMATION ONLINE?
WOU students can track the status of their nancial aid
data via their WOU Portal at wou.edu/portal and clicking
on “My Fin Aid.”
WHAT TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID ARE AVAILABLE?
Financial aid is intended to assist students with paying
the costs of college by providing grants, work-study and
student and parent loans.
Grants
Grants are funds that do not require repayment and
are available to eligible students, usually on the basis of
nancial need.
Federal work-study
The federal work-study program provides funding for
students to work part-time on campus or in a community
service position o campus to earn money to assist
with paying for college. The Service Learning and Career
Development oce can help students nd a work-study
job. If you do not qualify for work-study, that oce can
help you nd a part-time job on or o campus.
Loans
Financial aid in the form of student and parent loans is
available to all eligible aid recipients, regardless of nan-
cial need. Federal student loans do not require repay-
ment while the student is in school, and most student
loans allow a grace period after graduation before a
student begins repayment. For detailed information on
the loan programs at WOU, visit wou.edu/naid/paying-
for-college/loans.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available from WOU and from numerous
private donors and foundations. See page 5 for details
and visit wou.edu/scholarships for the most current
information on application procedures and deadlines.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?
The federal processor will notify you after your FAFSA is
processed and explain how to make corrections to your
Financial aid information

there are units that are gender inclusive (and other
spaces by request). Availability of specic options is

halls are tobacco-free communities.
THE RESIDENCE HALLS
The enclosed application will provide you with basic
options depending upon your academic standing,
but you will have the opportunity to select the hall,
room and roommate of your choice online! Look for
information regarding room selection to be sent to your
WOU email account in late spring/early summer. For
descriptions, more details and room tours, go online to
wou.edu/housing/rooms-and-maps.
RESIDENCE HALL FURNISHINGS
All rooms have wireless access and are also hard-wired
for computer hookups. Each room is furnished with the
following:

Chair Bookshelf or shelves
Wardrobe/closet Garbage can/recycle bin
Storage drawers Microwave-Refrigerator
LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Living Learning communities are designated
communities within Ackerman Hall that function
around a specic theme or academic interest. The
purpose for oering living-learning communities is to
provide students with the option to live with others
that share a similar interest or goal with respect to their
academic and/or residential experience.
If you are interested in a living learning experience,
please ll out the living- learning community options
section of this document.
CANCELING THE CONTRACT
If you leave the residence halls, and continue to
attend classes at WOU, your account will be charged
a cancellation fee ($7 per day, subject to change) for
the remainder of the academic year for breaking
your contractual agreement with the university. If you
withdraw from WOU during the academic year you will
be released from this contractual obligation.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
You must apply for admission to the university before
you apply for housing. Space will not be guaranteed
unless you are formally admitted to WOU and are
registered for classes.
We will accept your housing application beginning
October 1 for the following academic year and your
priority date will be the date your housing application
and fee are received in our oce. We encourage you to
apply early. Any applications received prior to October 1
will be dated October 1.
For more information about the residence halls
before making your decision, visit wou.edu/housing.
If you still have questions, please contact University
Housing at 503-838-8311, toll free at 1-877-877-1593,
opt. 4, or by email at [email protected].
CHOOSING A ROOMMATE
WOU oers the option of using electronic
roommate matching to help you nd your perfect
roommate. Look for an email from University
Housing in the spring with your access link to this
amazing program!
If you have completed this option and already know
your roommate, indicate your chosen roommate by
listing that person’s name and student ID number on the
application.
To be placed together, the person you request
must also request you to validate the roommate
selection. You must also both make the same
building choice. For Ackerman requests, living-
learning community rankings must also be the same
to be placed together.
If you don’t have a preferred roommate, a roommate
will be assigned to you.
THE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY
Because of the educational value of on-campus living,
all single rst-year students without dependents
who enter WOU within one year of high school
graduation are required to spend their rst year in
university-operated housing. Many returning and
transferring students also choose to live on campus for
convenience, available services, and varied activities.
WOU oers a variety of accommodations for on-
campus living. Rooms, suites and apartments are
