WELCOME TO THE TH
U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
We are thrilled to welcome you to
the 118th U.S. Open Championship at
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, one of the
five founding clubs of the USGA, which
is widely regarded as one of the game’s
grandest stages. This week marks the
fifth time that Shinnecock Hills has
hosted the U.S. Open, and the ninth
occasion this iconic venue has hosted a USGA championship.
Shinnecock Hills was founded in 1891, making it the oldest
incorporated golf club in the United States, and it has welcomed
the USGA since the outset, hosting the second U.S. Open and U.S.
Amateur championships in 1896. When Shinnecock Hills hosted
the 2004 U.S. Open – won by Retief Goosen over Phil Mickelson – it
became the only club to host the championship in three centuries.
The club hosted the sixth U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1900, and the
renowned present-day layout designed by William Flynn in 1930
was the site of the Walker Cup Match in 1977. After 90 years, the
U.S. Open returned to Shinnecock in 1986 to universal acclaim, and
43-year-old Raymond Floyd broke free of a crowded leader board
to become the oldest winner of the championship at the time.
In 1995, on the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Open’s founding,
Corey Pavin lofted a memorable 4-wood shot on the 72nd hole
to seal his victory. In 2004, Goosen parlayed a masterful display
of putting into his second U.S. Open victory. Thanks to the
commitment and generosity of our hosts at Shinnecock Hills,
the U.S. Open will also return here in 2026.
We appreciate you joining us for the 118th U.S. Open, and we are
excited for what promises to be a captivating week of major-
championship golf for players, fans and viewers from around the
world. Thank you for your support of the USGA, and – above all –
for your support of this great game we all love.
Sincerely,
Mike Davis
Executive Director/CEO, USGA

TRAIN TRANSPORTATION
MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is the easiest and most
convenient way to get to the U.S. Open. LIRR is committed to
providing safe and comfortable transportation. Train service will
be provided in both directions on the Montauk Branch and will
accommodate customers traveling from either New York City or
Eastern Long Island. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is located 85 miles
from New York’s Penn Station and the trip is expected to take
approximately two hours.
Golf fans will utilize a temporary train platform that will be
constructed in close proximity to the championship grounds.

After exiting the train, fans will proceed through security screening
prior to crossing a pedestrian bridge to reach the championship
grounds. Provisions for persons with limited mobility will be in
place to enable access to the championship. Regular fares will
be charged. Tickets purchased after boarding the train carry an
additional charge, so the LIRR encourages golf fans to purchase
tickets in advance from a Ticket Machine, staffed Ticket Office,
or through MTA eTix (www.mta.info/mta-eTix-promo), a mobile
ticketing App. Please visit www.mta.info/LIRR for information on
schedules and fares (information will be posted on or about May 1).
PASSENGER DROPOFF
Passenger Drop-Off will only be allowed at the designated area,
located at Stony Brook Southampton, which is a 10-minute walk
to Gate 2. There is no parking or staging for vehicles, so please
coordinate pickup times accordingly. Please follow directional
signs and attendants to the appropriate pickup and drop-off
location. Due to traffic restrictions, access is limited to vehicles
no larger than a 12-passenger van or limousine.
BICYCLES
Fans choosing to ride a bicycle to the championship are instructed
to follow directions and signage to the general parking lot (Francis
S. Gabreski Airport) or to the designated Passenger Drop-Off
location. Bike racks will be provided to secure bikes at each of these
locations. Owners are responsible for the security of their bicycles.
